Gruyère - say Cheese!

This half-day excursion takes you from Berne to the Swiss cheese country. Perched on a hill in a landscape full of grace and harmony, is the picture-book medieval town of Gruyères. With its quaint houses dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, it is a real paradise for photographers. First, you will visit the cheese factory “La Maison du Gruyère”. It takes you into the heart of the senses with an exhibition on fragrances and tastes. You will discover the secrets of cheese-making according to ancestral tradition. Then you will continue to the village of Gruyères. There will be time to stroll along the cobblestone streets before having lunch at restaurant Fleur de Lys. After a delicious lunch you will continue to Montreux. Drive along picturesque vineyards above typical wine growing villages Vevey and Châtel St. Denis, as well as Chillon Castle - one of the most impressive, medieval strongholds of Switzerland, immortalized by many famous poets. It was erected in the 13th century on Roman foundations and was the residence of the County of Savoy throughout the Middle Ages. Originally a fortress, Chillon Castle (same as Byron's famous Prisoner of Chillon) underwent numerous transformations while adapting to the advances in defensive and offensive weapons through the ages.

Magic Mount Schilthorn

This is no doubt the picture book tour you always had in mind when thinking of Switzerland. On this exciting excursion you will see some of the world’s most famous and dramatic scenery. Your first stop will be Gstaad - the “Jet-Set” holiday resort with is charming wooden chalets, with bright splashes of geraniums on the window sills. The winter and summer holiday resort is very popular with royalties and artists. Here you will cross the language border, from now onwards German will be spoken. Afterwards, you will continue by motor coach to Lauterbrunnen and on to Stechelberg, passing en route impressive waterfalls, quaint villages, flowers, meadows and pine trees.

At Stechelberg you board Europe’s longest aerial cable car to the top of the Mt. Schilthorn. The difference in height from the ground station to the very top is 2,134 m / 7,000 ft. for which you need exactly 1010 seconds traveling time. Linger over an awe-inspiring view stretching from the Black Forest in Germany to the mighty Mont-Blanc massive in France and, of course, the magnificent Mt. Jungfraujoch group with its eternal ice and snow. On the top you will have lunch at the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant - 3,048 m / 10,000 ft in the sky - made famous by the 007 James Bond film location for the movie “On her Majesty’s Secret Service”. Return the same way to Interlaken.

Lucerne – the charming city

Explore the storybook Lucerne. This lovely town stands by the Lake Lucerne and is surrounded to the South by snow-covered mountains. During an hour-long walking tour you will learn important, humorous and interesting facts about Lucerne's history, churches, bridges, narrow streets, towers, squares and, of course, Lucerne's trademark - the Chapel Bridge and Water Tower. Afterwards, you’ll have time for shopping in the Old Town, which has a traffic ban - certainly the most attractive "shopping center" you have ever seen. You will have lunch in the former guild house Pfistern - the unique remaining guild house in town with a direct view onto the Chapel Bridge. After lunch, you will continue your trip to Zurich, the final destination.
